Aphasia Association of New Zealand giving a voice to people with aphasia

Conferences were held every second year for people affected by aphasia, those working with people with aphasia, and anyone with an interest in aphasia.

Conferences served as a forum to raise awareness about aphasia and encourage people to discuss it publicly.  In addition, they were a great opportunity for people with aphasia and those working with people with aphasia to get together, find out what was happening around NZ and overseas, and share feelings and thoughts in a supportive environment.  A successful Auckland conference attended by nearly 140 people was held on the 19th and 20th of November 2015 at the Waipuna Hotel and Conference Centre.

Future Conferences and Events

AphasiaNZ will not be running any more large international conferences at this point in time. Instead, we are focusing on smaller local events and workshops, to connect people with others living with aphasia, which we call Aphasia Days.

In 2018 we ran a Waikato Aphasia Day Hamilton and a Southland Aphasia Day in Invercargill.

In 2019:

  • A Whangarei Aphasia Day was held in April
  • New Plymouth and Whanganui Aphasia Days are being held in October - more details to come
